Together,
we can stop the spread of hate.

In early 2020, another deadly disease ravaged the world:
Racism and xenophobia against Asians.
Racist speech soared 900% on Twitter.

And it didn’t stop there.
This online racism triggered thousands of violent incidents.
Assigning a nationality to a disease like COVID-19 spreads bias, suspicion, and hate:
in this case, against anyone who “looked Chinese.”

To fight this hate, volunteers at GS&P created
RESPOND2RACISM
—a Twitter bot that always responds to racism online.
Conceived and produced in 2 weeks with less than $24K
50,000+ organic Twitter
impressions per month
3x higher engagement rate
than Twitter’s average benchmark
$0 on media
87.5% of audience said they better understood how their words can fuel bias against Asians
The bot does two things:
1. Responds to racist tweets with a message from an Asian frontline worker explaining the effects of their words.
2. Responds to tweets from allies, equipping them with tools to help continue the fight against racism.
Respond2Racism continued to spark conversation by tweeting out tips and resources to be a first responder to racism.
